The collection of Lippmann plates at Sorbonne University

Preserved for several decades by the IMPMC, the collection of Lippmann plates is currently being archived by the Sorbonne University archives service. The plates are the core of a Museum of Color project - Gabriel Lippmann at Sorbonne University.

Archiving, restoration, conservation, valorization

The Institute of Materials Science led the first actions to promote the collection by proposing to the archives service to archive the collection.

iMAT then financed the emergency restoration interventions as well as the reconditioning of the entire collection for an amount of 9,000 euros.

To inspire the development of a project to promote plates around the theme of color, iMAT has finally created an exhibition in 2021 on the work of Gabriel Lippmann, for an amount of 5,000 euros. This exhibition is a pilot version.
